This picture had so many challenges for me: the horse's coat colour, the unusual lighting angle, and most of all the angle. I'm really proud of how it turned out though! Lori, the trakehner mare in the picture, is one of my favourites. She is so magical in my mind, and this picture is really close to how she looks in my imagination. I had so much trouble with the angle that I may have missed some wonky mistakes, but hopefully not.


This picture: [link] shows how Lori mysteriously appeared in the pasture of Climax Stables one day, and how she was adopted by 16-year-old Logan Westward. Logan, with his parents' help, began training Lori. She is a very sweet tempered and loving mare. Logan had some trouble with her because he isn’t a very confident trainer yet, and Lori is frightened if her rider is uncertain, but after a lot of work Logan earned Lori’s trust. Then she never wanted to leave his side and did everything he asked of her. He slowly introduced her to carrying tack and a rider, and spent a lot of time trail riding and working with her at liberty. Her talent for jumping was obvious, so once she was ready Logan entered her in this free jumping show. The new environment intimidated Lori, and before her class she hid her face behind Logan and sweated unless he was there to calm her. When she entered the ring and saw the jumps, however, she pricked her ears and relaxed. Logan grinned with relief and let her dash to the jumps. She went a bit too fast, but she set herself up well. Logan felt proud of her just for being in the ring that day. She had come a long way from being a lonely, stray horse.

Personality:  Lori is friendly and optimistic and loves meeting new people and horses. She can be frightened if forced into a new situation, but otherwise is extremely curious. Her greatest joy is jumping, and she will jump anything she has access to, including fences, streams, and lying down horses.
History: Lori showed up at Climax Stables when she was four years old, jumping into one of our mare's paddocks. She was unkempt and lonely, and she seemed happy to gain a caring home at Climax Stables. She was then trained in show jumping, for nothing else would satisfy her.
