Climax Stables
Shown: Vivace and James Westward training for ~alvija's Sagittarius Stables Grand Opening Festival jumping show.
Vivace came off the race track and went on stud duty for a while before James, the owner of Climax Stables, started training him to jump. Vivace was still fairly fit, but his gaits were choppy and he didn't have the flexibility and rhythm to complete a jumping course; as you can see, this led to some refusals. Despite the difficulties, Vivace loved to jump and was a hard worker. After a lot of training, he jumped as if he had been born for it, and James entered him in the Sagittaruis Stables show.
I haven't done a picture with only a pencil (only an HB mechanical pencil in this case...yikes) for so long that I felt out of practice, but I really like how this turned it. It looks a lot softer that my other pictures. It was so much fun to draw a refusual! Somehow I really enjoyed doing Vivace's rounded back and his hind legs bent under in this strange pose.
But the pose ref I used, a photo from a book, was only a couple inches high, so I ended up rooting through all my horse books for bits of legs and muscle that showed greater detail and were in the right position. 
Vivace and I both got some training I guess.
